Hormonal Regulation of Bile Secretion

چکیده

Hormones transported to the liver by the portal and systemic circulation regulate many hepatic functions. The mechanisms by which these hormones regulate gene expression and protein functions have been under intensive investigation in recent years. It is clear that hepatic metabolic responses to steroid and peptide hormones are generally similar to those for other hormone-sensitive tissues. Thus, liver is increasingly recognized as a target tissue for actions of many hormones of endogenous as well as exogenous origin. In addition, liver also participates in clearance and metabolism of many hormones from the circulation. This chapter summarizes some of the interrelationships between hormones and bile secretion.

Bile-induced secretion of glucagon-like peptide-1: pathophysiological implications in type 2 diabetes?

During the last decades it has become clear that bile acids not only act as simple fat solubilizers, but additionally represent complex hormonal metabolic integrators. Bile acids activate both nuclear receptors (controlling transcription of genes involved in for example bile acid, cholesterol, and glucose metabolism) and the cell surface G protein-coupled receptor TGR5 (modulating energy expend...

Is precocious puberty linked to hypothalamic expression of arginine-phenylalanine-amide-related peptide?

The up-regulator regulation and down-regulator regulation of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) in central precocious puberty is not yet known. However, recent advances in neuroendocrinology have shown the controlling role of arginine-phenylalanine (RF)-amide-related peptides (RFRPs) on GnRH secretion in different phenomenon of reproduction such as estrus cycle and pregnancy, but the exact r...

Regulation of cholangiocyte bicarbonate secretion.

The objective of this review article is to discuss the role of secretin and its receptor in the regulation of the secretory activity of intrahepatic bile duct epithelial cells (i.e., cholangiocytes). After a brief overview of cholangiocyte functions, we provide an historical background for the role of secretin and its receptor in the regulation of ductal secretion. We review the newly developed...

Cholestasis caused by the excessive accumulation of bile within the liver, due to intrinsic or extrinsic factors. Cholestasis side effects are associated directly or indirectly with the reduction of bile flow and the confinement of materials related to bile secretion (such as bile acids, bilirubin, and cholesterol). On the other hand, some factors such as opioids, alkaline phosphatase, endotoxi...
